Review: ApHogee Two Step Protein Treatment

I am a HAIR JUNKIE. I've been coloring my hair since I was in the 7th grade and ever since then, its been an addiction. Unfortunately with beauty, there is a price to pay and that means damage and dry hair when you love to color your hair. Unlike most Asian girls with the nice, fine and straight hair, my hair is thick, coarse and naturally wavy. Now try combining that with fried, damage, dry and split ends, all leading to a big mess and lots of hair products to try out.

Recently, I decided I wanted to change my hair color to a sombre, think Khloe Kardashian meets Guy Tang (LOVE HIM, follow him on instagram and YouTube if you haven't). I bleached/highlighted my hair once and that left a little brassiness but a beautiful caramel color. I should had stuck to that but being me, I wanted a blonde color and bleached it twice.. in the exact same day. YES. HUGE MISTAKE. By the time I washed my hair, it was so damage, it was brittle, falling off and my hair was MUSH. Anyone who knows BAD, damage hair, knows mush hair is beyond dead hair. I panicked and immediately looked up on google how to repair fry and damage hair. Mind you, I've been coloring/bleaching my hair forever now and this has never happened before. Then I realize it was probably the new bleach product I decided to used, *sigh.. I was miserable. For a short moment, I thought I would have to cut my medium-length hair and was dreading at the thought of having to grow my hair out long again.

Short story long, I found a HOLY GRAIL PRODUCT, that I recommend to anyone with damage, fry, mush hair or even hair that you want to be stronger, to try out ApHogee Two Step Protein Treatment.

What the product states:
  • Use for hair that is:
  • Too weak or fine to take a perm or relaxer
  • Will not hold color
  • Is over bleached
  • Breaks when combed or brushed
  • Is mushy when wet and brittle after drying

This unique treatment is formulated with magnesium and modified proteins which fuse into the hair with the application of heat. The result is that breakage is drastically reduced. During the process, ApHogee treatment hardens into the hair, dramatic evidence that something special is occurring. Restores lost moisture and hair becomes more manageable, flexible and strong. Breakage and split ends stop while hair looks and feels better.

RATINGS:

Overall Opinion: 4.5/5 with the Balanced Moisturizer, without it I would give it a 5/5
Meeting Expectation: 5/5
Price: Average

This product is sold at Sally Beauty Supply store as a package to try out or in a bottle. I first purchased this in the package to test out. It came with the protein treatment and balanced moisturizer. At first when I was reading other people's positive review, I noticed the horrible smell people wrote about. They were right, it smells like cat pee and don't ask me how I know what cat pee smells like, I can only imagine it smells like that. However aside from the smell, just follow the direction as given on the package/bottle and you should be good to go. I gave this product a 4.5 with the Balanced Moisturizer that came with it in the test package because I felt the moisturizer fell a little off with the protein treatment. I decided to purchase the 4 oz. bottle (a little goes a long way) and try my deep conditioning mask (left it on my hair for an hour) in sub with the moisturizer and I noticed a whole lot of a difference. The first treatment, I saw good results because I was able to comb my hair without it completely all falling off. Second treatment, better than good, my hair felt stronger and it was straight, my hair is never straight and lesser fall out of hairs. Third treatment, I wouldn't say my hair is back to "normal" or before I bleached it twice that awful day, but I do have to say it it is getting very close to it. Before I used the treatment, my hair was falling out like crazy so I did have a good chunk of hair that's gone on my left side than my right and now it looks like my hair is layered on my left side compare to my right.

Tips to keep in mind:
  • Layoff heat styling products
  • Use a wide-tooth comb with a leave-in conditioner/oil
  • Don't use this product everyday. I recommend those with severely damage hair to use it once a week only, as too much protein isn't good for your hair because it causes buildup. If you want strong hair, I would use it 2X/month

Until next time!
